1, study for the improvement of social services at LAKE CERIANO
"Quality ... We know what it is, but do not know. This is contradictory. Some things are better than others, ie they have more quality. But when you try to say what is the quality of abstracting from the things that possess it, chubby, words escape you. But if no one knows what it is, for all practical purposes does not exist at all. Rather does exist. Why people would pay a fortune for some things, and threw in the other garbage? Obviously some are better than others ... But what is the 'better'?
With these famous words of Robert M "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance"
intend to introduce the concept of quality and make it feel like to be a topic on the agenda for Social Services. In general, the quality of service is that set of properties and characteristics that make it suitable to meet the needs of citizens who turn to it. Since then, in the case of social services, a public service, you first must meet accessibility requirements (provide more timely services to those who are most in need), equity (providing services that are not differentiated by socio - economic need but for real health), respect for the dignity of the citizen (to create a proper relationship with the public based on transparency of information and the individual responsibility of operators), introduce the basic requirements for defining quality. Data acquired these principles, we now ask ourselves why it is important to assess and enhance the quality of social services. The need arises when the task requires a greater financial investment and when it is found that is great variability in the various projects should be considered on a case by case basis.
The Department of Social Services wanted urgently to understand what were the needs of the elderly and with the participation of Simone Radaelli, president of the School "Sister Teresa Dancers" Ceriano Pond, responsible for exploratory research, we decided to implement the first survey on the needs of the elderly population. It 'was an intriguing job and challenging because we have implemented all the rules of exploratory research. In other words, are those investigations which are carried out when there's nothing to compare. I take this opportunity to thank the hospitality for the usual staff of the facility integrated day "Macalle" and the day center's Senior Villa Rita, for without their help we would never be able to complete this study.
The beginning was to build a battery of questions that could support the argument:
"DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES. This process has been planned and built through the social services department staff Ceriano Pond. Choosing the battery of questions about 40 items with dichotomous response and / or multiple at a later time we wanted to pre-pilot survey, to really understand the appropriateness of the questionnaire: life compilation by older people, difficulty of the questions for the elderly; item analysis, analysis of scale and other minor aspects in this document. The survey pre-pilot was an intense moment and lived with a very strong spirit of participation. The survey was done on four persons selected by the integrated day center "Macalle '" with an eye to their difficulty reading, difficulty concentrating, difficulty writing, difficulty remembering just read the questions, difficulty in understanding. This test has brought with him a wealth of information for the partial renovation of the questionnaire. At the end of this process has been rebuilt to pre-pilot survey, and only secondarily gave a satisfactory outcome, and therefore allowed us to continue our project. At this point, the questionnaire is ready to be distributed at the centers of concentration (sample potential of 50 persons) and, taking into account available resources and especially the criticality of the first time, the sample should not be considered trivial.
At this point the trail is the time to explain the results of our study, the first attempt to Evaluation of Social Services, with the description and analysis of the questionnaire.
The questionnaire is divided into three sections broken down as follows:
1 - Personal data, 2 - Services aimed at the elderly population, 3 - requirements / needs
DATA
were examined 50 volunteers, of whom only 16 people have completed the evaluation questionnaire (73% with the help of a person). This figure is considered to be satisfactory in relation to the target. Considering the distribution of the variable 'sex' in relation to age is felt that women over the age of 75 years have an inclination to research the market more marked than their peers.
69% of the elderly to live alone Ceriano Pond / ae take care of the commitments of the house on their own for 68.75%. This is an indicator that explains the desire for independence and the health of the population. But it is also true that the proximity of the location of family members is for them a confidence that is priceless.
SERVICES FOR THE POPULATION OF SENIORS '
Below are the results for each question where you take note of the perception of citizens who have paid services for the population of the elderly.
HOME: There is a lack of information overall
SERVICE IN TRANSPORTATION: Please note that the 62.5% know the service and say that they know how to access. The 56.25% made use of the excellent quality of service showing a case
integrated day center "MACALLE '" The daytime Macallè is fully understood by the citizens (87.5%) and almost all are aware of the access mode (73.33 %). Only 63.5% had actually used the service at least once. 90% percent see it as a valuable service to the citizens and of excellent quality.
SENIOR CENTER DAY '(GIARDINONE): Only 43.75% know the service center during the day and only 37.5% know how to access it. The same people who have expressed knowledge have also used the service. However, they expressed a very positive opinion on the interest of the service, but it is equally true that you can always improve the operation of the service.
HOSPITALISATION: There exists a lack of information that reaches up to 75% percent and only 19% know how to access.
REQUIREMENTS / NEEDS : The needs of older people are: 40% have more company, 30% have home telecare, 20% become productive and the remaining 10% see most often relatives. 50% of older people have expressed that they need someone to look after their homes and 45% expressed difficulty the movement of essential supplies.
conclude that this initial research is just the beginning of a constructive dialogue with the applicant and citizens supported the wide availability of citizens.
This study is not meant to be the protocol of action for the coming months but it certainly served to open new horizons and consolidate others.
I take this opportunity to make known the full satisfaction for this research project and while I thank all the people who have been involved.
